The Anderson County Flywheelers are gearing up for the annual Gas Engine and Tractor Show that will be held October 2-3 in Garnett’s North Lake Park. This event is celebrating America’s 250th with several unique exhibits and activities. Highlights include what is shaping up to be a massive swap meet and flea market, plus exhibitors such as a soap maker, and now FOUR (4) Tipis and Trapper displays. The Kansas State Animal Response Team will be on hand for a Disaster Preparedness Education relating to family pets. Kansas Corn STEM Program is offering corn germination necklaces. 4-Rivers Electric Cooperatives will bring a safety presentation. The Flywheelers hope to have a good turnout of tractors and gas engines. The Free State Blacksmith Club will be here, as well as a steam tractor and other rare tractors. 

There is also a variety of lemonades, shaved ice, snow cone and “Dirty Sodas”. Food trucks and food vendors will be bringing a variety of food including Valkyrie Sandwiches, chipotle mac and cheese, hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, Mexican food, homemade ice cream and baked items.

The schedule for the event is as follows:

Pre-Event Set-Up: Thursday, October 1. Start Time: 8:00 a.m., East side of Lake Garnett.

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

Friday, October 2 – Education Day, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The public is welcome to enjoy the festivities any time of the day! Free admission.

8:30 a.m. - Tractor Displays, Gas Engine Exhibits and Swap Meet opens.

8:55 a.m. - National Anthem sung by Brayden Friend.

9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Education Day for schoolchildren. Students in elementary and high school, homeschooled children, teachers and parents, can watch antique farm equipment demonstrations and participate in activities. Complimentary lunch courtesy of Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival, Inc. and free ice cream for all the students attending courtesy of Modlin Fencing (Friday only).

11:00 a.m. - Tractor Parade lineup begins. Be here early!

1:30 a.m.-Tractor Parade around Lake Garnett. Bring your lawn chairs and find your parade viewing spot! North Lake Road will be closed to thru traffic for parade safety. 

12:00 p.m.-Lunch Time! Food vendors on site. 

1:30 p.m.-Threshing machine demonstration, followed by baling, courtesy of Elmer Schmucker. 

Saturday is Family Fun Day. Somewhat a repeat of Friday’s schedule with more tractors, exhibitors, and increase in participation. 

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

1:00 p.m.-Antique/Classic Tractor Pull begins at Pulling Track. Participant registration is 11 am to 12:30 p.m. Entry fee: $15 per hook. Concession available. Rules available HERE or contact Branden Clark, 785-893-3474.

There are no vendor fees, no admission fees for this event. However, donations are graciously accepted. The Anderson County Flywheelers are a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating our agricultural and industrial heritage, fostering an appreciation for the ingenuity and craftsmanship of our ancestors; connecting past innovations to present-day advancements, and, to inspire future generations to value this history, keeping strong the legacy of agriculture for years to come.
